So what exactly is the greenhouse effect? As shown in the picture, heat enters the Earth's atmposhere, much of which is reflected by the ozone layer. The rest is absorbed and re-circulated within our atmosphere by greenhouse gases. These gases include Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Nitrous Oxide (N2O), and CFCs (Chloroflourocarbons). The recent increase in these gases has led to an overheating of our Earth.
Now, why exactly have the amount of greenhouse gases increased? Since the Industrial Revolution has started, around the late 19th century, the amount of large factories have increased. Industries are responsible for the production of CFCs, a synthetic industrial gas. These factories also produce over 10 billion tons of CO2 every year! This increase is extremely detrimental, and is a large part of the reason of global warming.
